A Mysterious Visitor...

Ok, she's not really mysterious, but she did come to visit me! All the way from NORTH CAROLINA!!! This is such old news, by the way, but that's the way this blog rolls these days. Teri came out to paint the town red with me for a few days last month and it was sooo good to see her! We said goodbye in May when Brent and I left North Carolina and I have to say, I don't think I can go another six months without seeing this girl again.

We had a LOT to catch up on and the best part of her being here was just being able to talk face to face, because let's be honest - talking on the phone is sooo not the same. But we also got out and around town a bit and had one absolutely gorgeous first day of weather to work with! We strolled along the market sampling all the tasty treats and of course stopping for donuts.

Nom nom. And we had to stop in De Laurenti's to eat said donuts and get tasty cheese. Man those little donut babies are gooooood...

Seriously, yum.

Then I took her to my favorite place in all of Seattle! Discovery Park. We were favored with a fiery, colorful, amazing sunset and a good picture taking opportunity.

This is the part where I hand Brent the camera and proceed to give him all kinds of instructions about where to stand and what to do - what a good sport ;)

I need a 16x20 of this on my wall ASAP. Maybe Santa will bring me one?

Love love love.

We also took a little trip to the Volunteer Park Conservatory, a crazy little greenhouse about 10 minutes from our place. It's so nice to hang out in there during the colder months because it's always warm and steamy for the plants - like stepping off the airplane in Hawaii, aaahhh :)

See how cool it is? Not convinced? Ok...

Matching trench coats! I went to Pike Place market with another friend one time and we were also both wearing trench coats. While we were standing in front of the fish throwers one of the guys looks at us kinda funny then starts singing, "Do do do do do - Inspector Gadget!" When Teri and I both put ours on in the morning I knew I would be singing that song to myself aaaall day...and I did.

Have I told you about Brent's "list?" His residency directors came up with this list of 100 fun things to do in Seattle and whoever does the most of them by the end of their first year here wins a prize! Fun right?? So far we have done almost 30 of them...long ways to go, but it's fun to see things that we might not otherwise have heard about.  Anyway, one thing on "The List" is "admiring the design in your latte" - well, since I don't drink coffee I thought I'd ask a coffee shop to put a design in my cocoa. Many were skeptical, but they did it!

Yum. Well, pretty yum...we found another place later in the trip with much better cocoa, but it was still fun to get a cool design.

On our last day we took a little road trip to Port Townsend, which actually requires a little boat trip as well. The ferry took us to Bainbridge Island, then we drove up the coast along the most breathtaking views of the sound and interconnecting waterways/islands. The weather was horrible and windy with freezing rain pretty much the whole time we were there (hence the lack of pictures). But we just popped in and out of the funny old antique stores and other little shops laughing about how gosh darn freeezing it was outside. We had the most delicious lunch involving black bean burgers, clam chowder and a "warm salad" - which sounds weird, but was to diiiieee for.

We were so stuffed by the end of the meal that we could barely move, so we took a little walk up the hill and almost got trampled by some crazy deer jumping out of the bushes in front of us! Wish I had been ready with my camera.

It was a fun trip with lots of time to talk in the car, but we were happy to get back to my apartment and lounge around all cozy in our pjs again!

There are so so so many things that we didn't get done while she was here (um, RUNNING? how did we not do that?? Oh, maybe it had something to do with the freezing rain?) so we're already trying to get a "next time" on the calendar. I might need a little trip back to NC too!

Now who else wants to come visit?

Also, anyone who has been/lived in Seattle have suggestions for fun rainy day activities that are also cheap? Something I find myself thinking about whenever friends come into town...

By the Pricking of my Thumbs...

I can't believe it's already over! Another year, another freakishly fab party, and this time it was hosted by our new friends Ande and Joe Nehila...or should I say Medusa and her man-toy turned to stone?

We actually thought we wouldn't be able to pull off a party this year because a) we don't have that many friends yet and b) our apartment is teeny! I was whining to Ande on a run a couple of months ago about how sad this made me when she nonchalantly answered, "Duh, just have it at our house!" The rest, as they say, is history.

The Nehila's steps are notoriously dark and creepy (and kind of dangerous) already, so all they needed were a few little lights and an amaaaazing pumpkin (carved by Ande!) to lead the way...

I have to post a few decor pics because Ande is very crafty and made many of these things herself!

I think we probably spent at least 3 hours putting up webs!

Unfortunately I forgot (as usual) to get pictures of the food while it was still in it's pristine, beautiful condition...oops. Trust me that it looked much more delectable than it does here! Props to Emily for the exquisitely decorated, hand-dipped, scrumptious cake pops/balls...seriously, they were awesome, but everything else was pretty darn delicious too. Thanks to everyone who brought treats and food!

carrot-cake pop! mmmmm...
quite an assortment of soups! thanks to Neil for modeling.

And on to the best part! We had sooo many great costumes this year, and so many new people that I had never even met before, and some people that I probably won't recognize next time I see them...

Boxer and Farmer - my friend Emily from high school who lives in Seattle now!
Ballerina and Prisoner - too bad they left their cute sheriff puppy at home!
Vampire and his lovely victim
Awesome.
Zack and Kelly!
Identity Crisis and his "blind date" - she had props not visible here!
Gnomes!!
Chewy and his Flapper Girl
Hill Billy and "Hill Billy's Ventriloquist! haha.
The Goths
Death and Shirley Temple...an interesting combination.

For all you Harry Potter fans out there...
Gandalf and his Cat (I didn't know he had one either!)
Another shot of Medusa and Stone Joe
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir stopped by for a bit...amaaazing!
And last but certainly not least...

Han Solo and Princess Leia!!
star wars heaven!
Joe was the disturbingly creative narrator of "Werewolf" (similar to maffia). Many, many villagers were lynched or disemboweled before all the werewolves were eradicated. Congrats to those who survived in the end! I know Han Solo was amongst them, I'm so proud!

passing out character cards
night in the village...sooo scary!!
Ande was the first victim, but she didn't go down without a few choice words!

And some more fun shots from the rest of the night...

And the winners of this year's Glitter Skull Trophy???

THE GNOMES!!!!!!!

Well deserved...

Allison promised to display it year round - I'll be stopping by periodically to check!

Well, I'm sad it's over, but there's always next year! Until then, I'm pretty sure Ande's face still looks like this, so I'd better go over and help her clean up ;)

Wishing all of you could have been there!!

oh, ps - I'm always looking for new game/activity ideas, so if you played any fun ones this year, let me know in the comments!
